Licensed Pastoral Counselor

PASTORAL COUNSELOR, –Upon verification of documentation and payment of a fee not to exceed $100.00, as set by board rule, plus the actual per applicant cost to the agency for the administration of the exam:

(a)  Has made application there for and paid the appropriate fee.

(b) Has earned at least a master’s degree from a Seminary, Bible College, or University in Christian Counseling, Theology, and /or related fields, and the study program includes at least 30 educational credits on counseling theory and practice; and -or has earned a Bachelor’s degree from a Seminary, Bible College, or University in Counseling, Theology, or related fields; the educational program includes at least 20 credits on counseling theory and practice, plus at least 5 years of ministerial experiences.

c).  A minimum of 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours of graduate-level coursework in legal, ethical, and professional standards issues in the practice of Christian counseling, which includes goals, objectives, and practices of Christian counseling organizations, codes of ethics, legal considerations, standards of preparation, certifications and licensing, and the role identity and professional obligations of Christian counselors. Courses in research, thesis or dissertation work, practicum, internships, or fieldwork may not be applied toward this requirement.

D). Tis license needs to be renewed every year. The licensee needs to maintain his/her ministerial credential in good standards with the religious body. It is the licensee responsibility to present evidence of ministerial credential at the time of reviewing license or certification.

E). 10 Continuing Education Units (CEUS) are required to renewal this license every year. 4  of the 10 CEUS shall be on legal and /or ethical issues.
